Special Events

Old in Years but Young at Heart Challenge

This challenge is open only to riders who are of PRIMETIME and/or MASTERS age.

Thank you to Parker and Ed Minchin for sponsoring this amazing challenge!

How does the CHALLENGE work? Sign up for free on the entry form for OIYBYAH. Then the 2 highest scores of the weekend by a rider entered in the OIYBYAH challenge will be added together PLUS 1/2 point for every year over the age of 50. (Example: Rider scores 68 in one class and 70.5 in another class. Rider is 60 years old = to 5 age points. Total score would be 68 + 70.5 + 5 = 143.5.)

In the event of a tie, we will go back to the highest score before age is added. If there is still a tie, the rider with the oldest horse wins.

Make sure you mark on your entry form that you want to participate in this challenge. (Some of you may be asked to show proof of age)

The winner will get a Lawson (donated by Karen Shedlauskas) and a great prize basket! Thank you, Karen and Parker!

Trainer Stick Horse FREAK STYLE Contest

(after Friday’s Green Reiner Challenge in the main arena on October 26)

What is a “Freak Style Contest”? Instead of using real horses, trainers will be using a provided “stick” horse. They are able to choose their own costume for their “freak style run”. (Think freestyle but add some freakishly fun costumes!)

Trainers are welcome to come up with their own pattern. However, there are a few “requirements”, they are:

  • At least 1 large and 1 small circle to left.
  • At least 1 large and 1 small circle to the right.
  • One lead change to left and to right.
  • At least 1 run down and stop.

Beyond these requirements, trainers are able to make this pattern their own. Ride double, ride backward, ride that horse side saddle…however you want, but have a bucking good time! The more entertaining, the better. Notice I didn’t say the “prettiest”. (Please note: we will only use half of the main arena- the half closest to the gate.)

Trainers have a choice of the following songs for their run. (Or send an email with the song you’d rather have for your ride. Keep it clean for the kids!) Office staff must know which song will be used no later than the beginning of the Green Class. If you don’t provide a song, the announcer will reserve the right to choose one for you!

WHY would a trainer want to do this? SERHA is fundraising for the Joseph R. Hoggard, Jr. Scholarship Fund. http://serha.org/wp/scholarship/

Each run will be videoed on SERHA’s Live Feed to allow others to “bid” on their favorite trainer’s “freak style” run. This gives those who are not at the show an opportunity to donate to their favorite rider! All bids for each trainer will go into that trainer’s jack o’lantern which will be in the show office.

What does each participating trainer receive? A $25 gift card. However, the trainer with the most money in their jack o’ lantern by end of the Futurity on Saturday night will receive their choice of a set of romals or $100 shopping credit from The Tack Shack.

If you’d like to participate OR see your trainer in this event, please respond before October 24th so we are able to make sure the “horses” are “tacked and trained” perfectly!

Thanks and we are looking forward to all the freaky rides!
