The Joseph R. Hoggard, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 to honor a dear friend of the Southeastern Reining Horse Association. Joey is remembered for his quiet, gentle ways in which he helped others. This scholarship recognizes students who do not fit a traditional mold or who are often overlooked for academic scholarships – students considered to be “diamonds in the rough”. The dream and design of the scholarship is to find these creative and talented young people and to reward them for their commitment, tenacity and creative vision.
One high school senior and one college student will be awarded a scholarship each year in honor of Joey’s hard work and perseverance. Applicants may apply for the scholarship if they are planning on attending a college, university, vocational or trade school or are already enrolled. The scholarship may be used to pay for expenses such as tuition, fees, books, or room and board. Funding for Joey’s scholarship will be provided by member donations, SERHA fundraising activities, and sponsorship donations.
