Saddle Shootout Rules

Rookie 2 / Limited Non Pro Saddle Shootout

Rookie 2 and Intermediate Non Pro competitors who attend The 2025 SERHA March Into Spring show and compete in NRHA Rookie Level 2 and Limited Non Pro class on either Saturday or Sunday may choose to enter the Rookie 2 and/or Limited Non Pro Saddle Shootout competition for an additional entry fee of $85.00. This fee includes two opportunities to qualify for the shootout final held at our May Carolina Classic show.  You must be signed up prior to showing your first class.

The top 5 highest individual scores from any eligible Rookie rider/horse combination on Saturday and Sunday will advance to the Rookie 2 or Limited Non Pro Saddle Shootout Final held at the May Carolina Classic Show.

The competitor with the highest score in the shootout final will receive a Custom Saddle from Jim Taylor Custom Saddles.

Shootout finalists will receive a prize.

SHOOTOUT CONDITIONS
  • The top 5 highest scores from Saturday and Sunday will be used to advance to the shootout final.
  • Competitors only need to show once to qualify for the shootout final but, will have the opportunity to show twice to achieve their highest score.
  • Ties for the top 10 finalists will be broken by using a predefined maneuver score to be selected before the class starts.  The person with the highest score in that maneuver will advance.  Any competitor still tied using the maneuver tie breaker system will advance to the final.
  • A competitor must have entered the Rookie 2 and/or Limited Non Pro Saddle Shootout at the show office prior to competing on either Saturday or Sunday for their score to be used in qualification for the final.
  • The shootout final is a clean slate competition with the highest score taking the championship title and the saddle award.
  • A tie for first in the shootout final will be broken using a maneuver count back system. The competitor with the highest total maneuver score in the final maneuver across all judges’ cards will win the tie break. If still tied the previous maneuver will be used and so on. If the tie cannot be broken using this system a coin toss will break the tie. There will not be a ride off.
  • A competitor who chooses to compete in multiple saddle shootout levels will only be eligible to receive the highest level saddle should they win multiple levels. The lower-level saddle will be awarded to the next highest competitor in that level.
  • Competitors who have previously won a Rookie 2 or Limited Non Pro Saddle Shootout at The SERHA Carolina Classic must compete for a higher-level saddle in the future if they want to (Non Pro for Rookie 2 winner, Open for Non Pro winner Saddle Shootout for example).
  • Should multiple judges be utilized for either of the Rookie Shows, an average based out of a score of 70 will be used to calculate an aggregate score. (e.g. Judge 1 – Score 72.0 + Judge 2 Score 71.0 = Average Score 71.5). Scores with a .25 or a .75 average are rounded up to the nearest half or whole score. (e.g. 70.25 = 70.5 and 70.75 = 71.0)

Important Note: Show management reserves the right to make changes to the schedule and conditions for the Rookie and Intermediate Non Pro Saddle Shootout as required.
